THE RESTAURANTS
Food conceived as a philosophy, a social pastime, the culture of convivial pleasures
and of a relaxed exchange of ideas around a table, a shared heritage of values
and identity, an out-and-out language with its own grammar of taste, a medium
conveying a territory. This is the spirit with which the Ceretto family recently
opened its two restaurants with their chef, Enrico Crippa. La Piola and Piazza
Duomo: two cuisines with two souls in a single building in Piazza del Risorgimento,
in the heart of the Alba’s old town centre.
The osteria on the ground floor caters for the most authentic traditions of a
genuinely prodigious area: strictly Langa-style dishes, served with a selection
of the less well-known gems of the local wine production.
Meanwhile, in Piazza Duomo Crippa gives free reign to his inventiveness and his
knowledge of ingredients, making imaginative use of spices and irony in perfect
tune with the colors and lines created for the premises by the artists invited
to contribute to the restoration of the building: the architects Bill Katz, Luca
and Marina Deabate, Steven Shailer and Marilena Bonino, along with the artists
Donald Baecheler, James Brown and Robert Indiana, who painted the Piola’s
dishes.
